POCATELLO - Max David Stoor, 68, passed away Monday morning, October 16, 2000, surrounded by his family at his home in Pocatello. He was born February 3, 1932, in Soda Springs, Idaho, to Mathias Emanualson and Sarah Elizabeth Lewis Stoor.
While growing up, Max lived in Wayan, Soda Springs and Bern, Idaho. He attended high school in Montpelier, where he met his sweetheart. Max married Velma Armatage June 20, 1951, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Max worked odd jobs for a time before he started working for the Union Pacific Railroad, and later moved his family to Pocatello. He retired after 42 years of service.
Max enjoyed sharing time with his family, especially his grandkids. He loved sports, and in his early years hunting and fishing, camping, snowmobiling, horseback riding, and generally enjoyed the outdoors. He especially enjoyed his garden, his pride and joy, which generated enough to supply his kids and neighbors with an ample supply of fresh produce every time they stopped by.
Max is survived by his wife, Velma, of Pocatello; one son, Randall Max Stoor of Idaho Falls; five daughters, Trudy Ann (Rick) Warner of Idaho Falls, Susan Kay (Roy) Griffiths of Salt Lake City, Utah, Tammy (Ron) Riecks of Pocatello, Pennie Lee (Kevin) Robertson of Green River, Wyoming, Teresa Lynn Hartogh of Pocatello; 24 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Bettie Jean (Kenneth) Douglas of Pocatello; three brothers, Farrell (Margaret) Stoor of Soda Springs, John (Alene) Stoor of Pocatello, Frank "Buster" (Pat) Stoor of Wayan, Idaho; and two cousins he was raised with, Donna Lee (Cloyd) Wallentine and Wendell (Verla) Kunz. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Everet Lee Stoor, Bud Mathias Stoor, Emil L. Stoor, Robert W. Stoor, and a sister, Wilma Elizabeth Bland, and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 20, at noon in the Indian Hills LDS Ward Chapel at 5425 Bannock Highway in Pocatello, where the family will visit with friends that morning from 10 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Montpelier Cemetery at approximately 3 p.m., with services under the direction of Matthews Mortuary of Montpelier
