MARTHA ELIZABETH, daughter of Charles, and Elizabeth Mitchel, of Dutch, English, Irish, and Scotch ancestry; born October 8, 1848, near Lansing Michigan; with parents to Iowa, 1850; helped mother run farm after death of father, 1859; teacher, two years; married John Bollman at age 21; mother of eight children; appointed postmaster at Elmira, Oregon, 1887, by President Harrison; reappointed under McKinley. Operated a general merchandise store many years at Elmira; active in community and Baptist Church affairs; a warm, friendly person, who, despite a life of continuous hard work, spread joy and happiness to all who knew her.
