PIONEER OF CITY CALLED
D. L. Aldridge, one of the oldest San Bernardino pioneers, died suddenly last night in his home, 224 F street, at the age of 80 years.
Funeral services will be held in the family home at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. These services will be private, owing to sickness in the family. However, there will be a Masonic service at the old City cemetery which will be public. This service will occur at 3 o'clock with Phoenix lodge No. 178 in charge. The J. D. McDonald company is in charge of the funeral.
D. L. Aldridge was the head of one of the pioneer families who crossed the desert in the days of San Bernardino's infancy. He was the father of W. D. Aldridge, Dr. J. W. Aldridge, M. L. Aldridge and Mrs. S. B. Harris. He leaves a wife whom he married two years ago, being formerly Mrs. Sarah Van Dorin.
The family migrated from Missouri following the excitement of the 1849 gold rush. The trip was made by ox team to Salt Lake City, thence to San Bernardino, where Mr. Aldridge helped make the old fort which protected the few inhabitants of this place from Indian attacks.
The pallbearers will be Robert Poppett, W. A. Boren, J. N. Corbett, George Miller, C. J. Daley, Silas Cox.
