OBITUARY: Hilka Mary Bakker, daughter of Heike Bakker and Ann Witte, was born Dec. 21, 1889 on a farm in Lincoln County near Tea, So. Dak. She graduated from Dewey District #88 grade school and completed two years of high school in Tea before attending and graduating from the Sioux Falls Business College in 1919. She taught the Dewey School until her marriage to Albert Blau in Sioux Falls in Oct of 1921. They farmed north of Tea until his death on Thanksgiving Day of 1935. Since moving to Sioux Falls in 1936, she had worked as a cook in several places, mainly the American Legion Club, Veteran's Hospital, Town and Country Cafe and was currently at the Cataract Hotel.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic parish, The Hotel, Restaurant and Tavern Employees Union Local 273, and a member of the Auxillary of the Blau-DeBoer American Legion Post 266, Tea, So. Dak.
Survivors are 1 son, Merle; 3 grandchildreen, 1 brother, Clarence Bakker and 1 sister, Mrs. Joan Steel, all of Sioux Falls.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 1 sister.
Friends and neighbors are invited to gather with the family at the Tea Legion Hall following the committal service
