Mr. McCoy was born on March 21, 1949 in Jacksonville to his parents, Jessie Monroe McCoy and Ruthie Berryhill McCoy. He was reared near Poynor and graduated from LaPoynor in 1967. He entered the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. He married Gwendolyn Kay Loden in 1969. He graduated from Henderson County Junior College in 1980.
Jerry married Janice Wilson on August 4, 1978. He was a mechanic by trade and was the owner and operator of Athens Alignment and Auto repair. He was also a heavy equipment operator. He was a Baptist by faith and was a lay preacher who served in Belize and other parts of Central America. He loved his family and was known as "PaPaw" who was always playing with kids and reading stories. He enjoyed fishing and camping and loved his "granddogs", Diva, Macie and Sassifras.
Mr. McCoy was preceded in death by his father; brother; Garry Glen McCoy; and mother-in-law, Lessie Wilson.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Wilson McCoy of Poynor; daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Craig Smith of Tyler, Brandi and David Wallace of Londonderry, New Hampshire, Kristi and Tracy Norrell of McKinney, Mrs. Melissa Macura of Rockwall, and Helen McCoy of Poynor; son Jonathan McCoy of Poynor; mother, Ruthie Lee Berryhill McCoy of LaRue; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Melinda McCoy of Surgarland, Henory O. and Marlene McCoy of Arlington, and David and Janice McCoy of Childress; sisters and brother-in-law, Brinda McCoy of LaRue and LInda and Gordon Folmar of Frankston; sisters-in-law, Sherion McCoy of Amarillo and Dee Hendrix McCoy of Athens; and grandchildren, Ericka White, Abigail Wallace, Tracie Norrell, Jordan Norrell, Brandi Macura, Tonie McDonald, and Brandon Macura.
Pallbearers include Mr. Macura, Eric White, James Sanders, Jeff Munds, Daryll Standridge, and John Paul Clements.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on a Wednesday in the Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with G.C. Folmar and James Johnson Officiating. Burial with Military honors was followed at Midway Cemetery. He passed on a Sunday morning in Athens.
