BELL - Mertys Ward Bell of Greensboro, NC passed away on May 28, 2003 at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born July 13, 1917 in Arlington, Georgia, a daughter of Richard Christopher Ward and Carol Clements Ward. On December 12, 1942 she married Thomas Bell who preceded her in death June 23, 1997. She is survived by a daughter, Lisa Bell Foster and husband Eddie of Burlington, NC; a son, John Bell and wife Carolyn of Thomasville, NC; three grandchildren, William Bell of Thomasville, NC, Sarah Foster and Steven Foster of Burlington, NC; a sister, Dorothy Majors of Albany, Georgia; two brothers, R. C. Ward, Jr. and Bruce Ward of Arlington, Georgia. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Ward Brake and a brother Gerald Ward. Funeral services were Saturday at 11 AM at Sedgefield Presbyterian Church with Dr. James K. Wilson, Jr., Dr. Douglass Key, and Dr. Will Terry officiating. Visitation was Friday from 7 to 9 PM at HanesLineberry Sedgefield. Graveside Services were at Arlington Park Cemetery in Jacksonville at 2:00 PM Monday with Rev. Chris Bullington conducting. The family received friends 11 AM12 Noon Monday at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd. S. Memorials may be sent to Sedgefield Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 4216 Wayne Rd. Greensboro, NC 27407, GTCC Learning Resource Center, Jamestown, NC, Hospice of Greensboro, or to a charity of ones choice.
