Adam Becker was born at Eich Kronthon, Osthofen Kries, Worms Hessen Darmstadt, Germany, March 22, 1811, and died near Davis, Ill, Nov. 27, 1901. He was married to Mary Neimkommet in 1836 and lived a happy married life for 64 years. This union was blessed with 12 children of whom 3 sones 3 daughter, 33 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren remain to mourn his departure. In 1847 he with his companion came to America, and settled near Davis, Ill. He has converted in 1848 and united with the Ev. Association, of which he was a faithful member until the organization of the United Evangelical Church, with which he identified himself and remained a faithful member until the Lord called him up higher. His wife preceded him to the grave a year. The children were all married and have homes of their own except one daughter Helen, who remained at home and cared for her aged parents to the end. May the Lord abundantly reward her. Father Becker was a kind consecrated, loving father, a good citizen, a Christian whose example is worthey of imitation. A few days before his death he repeated one verse of "Home Sweet Home" and said my "loved companion is there. I want to go too". As I visited him 2 days before his death he clasped my hand and said. "Almost home! almost home!" His last words were, "I don't want anything anymore," then he folded his hands and closed his eyes to the transitory things of earth to open them in the city of everlasting habitation. His work was done; his business all settled up; he was ready to go. We miss our dear father in the home, the church, and the community. May the Lord bless the bereaved family and enable them to follow their father as he followed Christ. The funeral services were conducted by his pastor assisted by Rev. W. Shultz of the Ev. Adam was married to May Neukomat in Aech in State of Germany 20 Oct. 1836 by the George Satorus, Minister of the Gospel. Mary was born 22 Dec. 1820, the daughter of Elizabeth Neumann, who was born 8 May 1794 and died 21 May 1865, possibly at Rock Grove, Illinois.
Mary died 17 Oct. 1900 at Rock Grove, Illinois and Adam, Sr. died 27 Nov. 1901, also at Rock Grove. Both are buried at Bethlehem Cemetery north of Davis, Ill.
To this union was born 10 living children; Adam Jr., Mary, Phillip, Jacob, John, George, Elizabeth, Henry, Helen and Daniel. The first four children were born in Germany.
The Adam Becker family came to the United States in 1847, making the trip by sailboat, taking forty-seven days. (Some accounts say 40 days). The family came to this country
to escape military service and wars and to give their growing family a chance in life. After arriving at New York, and no doubt Ellis Island, they traveled nine days by canal
from Albany to Buffalo. The family journeyed from Buffalo to Milwaukee across the Lakes. There they were met by John Becker, Adam's brother. He had a wagon and team of oxen
and the journey to Rock River in Stephenson County, Illinois was made. A farm of 40 acres, broken, and 5 acres timber with a log-house was purchased, the necessary tools and a
team of oxen secured and farming commenced in the New World. Later Adam owned 142 acres.
