Amy, a full blood Yankton Sioux, was born at the Greenwood Agency, South Dakota, the daughter of Joseph and Annie (Tunkahinapewin) Cajayadmani. An orphan at age 6 , her parents and brother, James, having died of tuberculosis. The descison was made to send Amy to the TB Sanitarium at Phoenix, Arizona to save her from the fate that had befallen her family. Amy grew up at the sanatarium and the Phoenix Indian School. This is where she met her future husband, Harpley W Johnson
Harpley Johnson, a full blood Creek from Oklahoma. Amy and Harpley were married at Supulpa, Oklahoma June 7, 1923. To this union were born two children Elizabeth Naoma and Fredrick Elliot.
