VETERAN SCHOOL TEACHER IS DEAD
Miss Jennie Ewing Dies After Lingering Illness
Taught in City Schools for 30 Years--Re-Elected in May But Unable to Assume Duties.

Miss Jennie O. Ewing, 309 West Third Street, one of Muscatine's oldest school teachers from the standpoint of continuous service, died at 10 o'clock last night at the Hershey hospital following a lingering illness. She was 50 years old.

Miss Ewing was born and spent her entire life in Muscatine. After completing a year's course in the Leverich Normal school and attending the Indiana State Normal school for 20 weeks, she was appointed teacher of a rural school in this county. In 1891, she began her public school teaching career in the Franklin school. The following year she was transferred to the primary grade in the Garfield school and taught there continuously until last year. She was re-elected in May to teach this year but was unable to assume her duties because of ill health.

During her entire service in the city schools, no other teacher is said to have enjoyed a better attendance and punctuality record.

She is survived by two brothers, D. L. Ewing of Chicago, and G. B. Ewing of San Francisco, and a sister, Miss Blanche Ewing, at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 o'clock Thursday morning from the home. The Rev. J. B. Rendall of the First Presbyterian church will officiate. Private burial will be made in Greenwood Cemetery.
