Funeral services were conducted at St. Joseph's church, Pierz, at ten, Wednesday for Mrs. Harold Austin, 39, former Pierz resident until March of this year, when the Austins left for Morris, Minnesota, where they operate a Ben Franklin variety store. Mr. Austin was Pierz' north end barber for years.
Celebrant of the Solemn Requiem was Rev. Robert Voigt, with Rev. Mark Willenbring and Rev. Richard Leisen assisting as deacon and subdeancon, respectively. Master of ceremonies was Alfred Stangl.
Interment was made in the Pierz cemetery. Pallbearers were six nephews, Paul, Rollie, Richard, James, Donald, and Tommy Hartmann.
Honorary pallbeareres were Mrs. Elmer Gau, Mrs. Wm. Stoll, Mrs. Werner Flicker, Mrs. Jerome Schaeffer, Mrs. Harold Meyer, and Mrs. Elmer Langer.
She passed away at the Morris hospital at 6:45 a.m., Sunday, after a cerebral hemorrhage late in the previous afternoon.
Mrs. Austin was an active member of the Christian Mothers Society, St. Joseph's church, Pierz.
Formerly Lorraine Hartmann, a daughter of the late Elizabeth and Phil Hartmann of this place, she was born here August 21, 1917 and received her education in the local school, then attended the Little Falls high school and was a graduate of the St. Cloud Teachers College. She married Harold Austin at St. Joseph's church, Pierz, December 16, 1944.
Besides her husband she leaves nine sons and daughters, Harold, Marbeth, Margaret, Nanette, Charles, Deborah, Jean, Raymond and Peter, all at home. Gilbert preceded his mother in death.
Surviving brothers and sisters are: Alex Hartmann, Davenport, Iowa; Herb Hartmann, LeSueur, Minn., R. J. Hartmann, Al Hartmann, Mrs. Rod Poepping (Margaret), Mrs. Lavina Smythe, and Leander Hartmann, all of this place; Mrs. Dan Waligora (Delores), Pacific Grove, California; Dr. C. M. Hartmann, Omaha, Nebraska; and Mrs. Francis VonderHaar (Luela), Hibbing.
