Dimitri L. Gloss, 68, of North 700 East, New Carlisle, Ind., passed away after an illness on Saturday, April 5, in his home.
Dimitri was born on Jan. 5, 1929, in Liege, Belgium.
At the age of 19, Dimitri enlisted in the Belgium Royal Army, he worked his way up to teaching hand to hand combat to Belgium Army Commando's. He was afforded a transfer to the U.S. Army to teach European combat Tactics, he accepted.
He was discharged in 1950, and moved to South Bend, Indiana, to be near Notre Dame Univ… He worked days and studied at night. He was offered a teaching job at New Carlisle High School to teach French.
In addition to teaching high school, Dimitri was a post-graduate instructor at Notre Dame.
In 1990, Dimitri retired as a teacher from the New Prairie School Corporation after 30 years of service.
On December 17, 1966, in New Carlisle, Dimitri married the former Patricia L. Danielson, of New Carlisle, who survives. He is also survived by seven children, Michelle Gloss of South Bend, Ind., Jeannine Gloss of Michigan City, Ind., Theodore Gloss of New Carlisle, Jean-Pierre Gloss of New Carlisle, Suzanne Laesch of Michigan City, Patrick Gloss of New Buffalo, Mich., and Monique Gloss of Michigan City; five grandchildren,
Dimitri was a member of St. John Kanty Catholic Church, in Rolling Prairie, Ind… A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday in St. John's Church, followed by a burial service at
St. John Kanty Cemetery, La Porte County, Indiana.
