Mother of Five Well-Known Moline Men Called After Long Illness
Mrs. Johanna Shallberg, 80, died in her home, 901 Twelfth Avenue, Moline, this morning after a long illness. She is the mother of five prominent Moline men, G. A. Shallberg, attorney, Robert C. Shallberg, cashier of the Peoples Bank, Fred and Oscar Shallberg, managers of the Avoy theater, and C. E. Shallberg, insurance agent.
Mrs. Shallberg was born in Sweden on Aug. 10, 1844. She came to live in the United States in 1854, first residing in New Windsor, Ill., where she met and married Andrew Shallberg on May 29, 1869. Her maiden name was Johanna S. Falk. Mrs. Shallberg was preceded in death by her husband, who died on March 27, 1897. She had been a resident of Moline for fifty-five years, joining the First Lutheran Church during her first year in Moline. Andrew Shallberg was a former superintendent of Moline city streets, in which capacity he had served for many years.
Surviving her are three daughters, Mildred and Lydia Shallberg, Moline, and Mrs. Dora Sundberg, Galesburg, Ill., five sons, Charles E., Gustav A., Fred, Oscar, and Robert, all of Moline, two brothers, Peter Falk, Council Bluffs, Ia. and Alfred Falk, Clarinda, Ia., and two sisters, Mrs. Aleda Hallberg, Wakefield, Neb., and Mrs. Nora Gustavson, Omaha, Neb. Thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive her.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon in the residence, 901 Twelfth avenue, Moline. The Rev. C. O. Morland, pastor of the First Lutheran church, will officiate. Interment will be in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery.
