Charles was the son of John Kelley and Jane Ford. He married Martha Hill. They were the parents of David, Grace, William, and Forman Kelley.
November 17, 1899 - Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - The Capital: Charles Kelly, stock buyer, residing a short distance west of Greenwood Park, was instantly killed in a runaway at 8 o'clock Saturday night. He was returning home on horse back and when in the vicinity of Thirty-fifth street and Grand avenue his horse was frightened and became unmanageable, running wildly to Forty-eight street, where it hurled the rider against a large tree standing by the roadside. Death was instantaneous. The unfortunate mans skull was crushed and his brains scattered in every direction.
Acting Coroner Ayleworth and a patrol wagon filled with officers arrived on the scene an hour later. The body was removed to Dr. McDermott's morgue and a coroner's jury empaneled.
