Mrs. Maxine Casteel, 90, of Eldorado, passed away at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado surrounded by her family.
She was the widow of Cecil Edgar Casteel.
Maxine was born in Leedy, Miss., on Aug. 26, 1917, the daughter of the late James Franklin and Lillie Ova (Gray) McAnally.
She was a charter member of Scott Street Baptist Church in Eldorado. She worked as a private nurse and as a licensed practical nurse at Pearce Hospital before retirement and also volunteered at Ferrell Hospital.
Maxine enjoyed working in her flower gardens and especially enjoyed knowing and spending time with her children and friends and being an important and encouraging part of all their lives.
Maxine is survived by three daughters, Dolly (Glen) Taylor of Harrisburg, Donna (Ron) Thomason of Eldorado and Sharon (Raymon) Lopez of Westmorland, Tenn.; five sons, Jerry (Carol) Casteel of Taylorville, Michael (Beth) Casteel of Harrisburg, Tim (Arlene) Casteel of Galatia, Keith (Betty) Casteel of Eldorado and Jeff Casteel of Eldorado. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren and many great- and great-great-grandchildren. Maxine is also survived by one brother, Harold McAnally; and four sisters, Jessie V. Brown, Jimmie Faye Garner, Nellie Harrison and Martha Ellen Moss; and a daughter-in-law, Helen Casteel.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Linda Jackson and Frank Casteel; one brother, James Everett McAnally; three sisters, Evie Lee Thorne, Mary Lou Rast and Nadine Farley; and three grandsons, Phillip Sapp, Chris Talkington and Mark Cox.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Lindale Cemetery, Eldorado, with the Rev. Buddy Sork officiating.
Friends may call 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crisis Pregnancy Center or the Baptist Childrens Home and may be left at the funeral home.
