Elmer Adam
FAIRFIELD — Elmer M. Adam was born on July 28, 1923 at Harper, Iowa the son of Peter J. and Pearl Sondag Adam. Elmer attended school at St. Elizabeth Catholic School in Harper.Elmer served in the military from 1943-1946 as a U.S. Navy Sea Bee as a Machinist Mate 2nd Class. Elmer married Harriet Greiner on May 6, 1947 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington, Iowa.He started farming in 1947 in Washington County, then moved to Jefferson County in 1951 and farmed until 1988 at which time he retired and they moved to 2265 Glasgow Road, Fairfield. Elmer was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and served on the finance committee and was an usher for many years. He was an Archer Oil dealer for 50 years, seed dealer for 40 years, served on township committee for many years as chairman of Cedar Township trustee for many years. He also served on the Jefferson County Federal Housing Administration Board and served on the Jefferson County Board of Review for several years. Elmer's hobbies were watching the St. Louis Cardinals, Iowa Hawkeyes, hunting and fishing and playing cards and spending time with his family and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Elmer is survived by his wife, Harriett and seven children, Dennis (Andra) Adam, Bonnie (Mike) Kessel, Robert (Nannette) Adam, James (Rebecca) Adam, Marvin Joseph (JoAnn) Adam all of Fairfield, Charles (Susan) Adam of Longmont, Colo. and Janice (Mike) Mc Donough of Ottumwa; 13 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; his sisters, Edith Warwick of Delta, Iowa, Verda Sieren of Keota, Verena Snakenburg of Sigourney, Oda Reed of Fairfield; and his brother, Harry Joe Adam of Columbus Junction, Iowa.Deceased family members include one grandchild; his parents; two brothers; and four sisters.Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 12th, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Fairfield. The Rev. Stephen Page will officiate at the service.Open visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home and from 6-8 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church.
