Mary Thiede Lesser was the daughter of John Thiede and Maria Schumacher and the wife of Fred George Lesser. She was born at sea during her family's voyage from Germany to New York on the ship 'Hamburg.' Mary gave birth to eight children, five of whom reached adulthood.
