Deceased was a veteran of the Civil War, having for three years fought for his country in the 143rd regiment, and an older brother perished on the battlefield. For the past twelve of fifteen years he had been an assessor of the town of Thompson, and was engaged on work connected with the office at the time of his death. It is thought that the town board will appoint his oldest son to the place so long and so worthily filled by his father.
