Goro Thornby Ostby was the first wife of the Reverend Paul Gjermundsen Ostby. She was born in Norway, like Paul; they immigrated to America on the same ship and married in Minnesota. She and Paul had 9 children, with 6 sons surviving to adulthood: John, Bernhard, Paul, Selmer, James, and Otto. Goro was a loving, faithful, and patient wife to Paul, a renowned Lutheran preacher who started many churches in Iowa and Minnesota. According to contemporary articles, she was well-loved in Albert Lea and in Emmons. Goro passed away after a bout with stomach cancer.

Paul remarried after Goro's death, but he is buried alongside her in old Lime Creek Cemetery, along with their youngest son Otto, a police officer who died in the line of duty, and two of their children who died shortly after birth. Paul founded the Lime Creek Lutheran Church which abuts the graveyard; it hasn't been used since 1983, but is reportedly still in good repair.

On a side note, Goro's sister Anna Marie - known as Annie Mary - came over to America on the same ship as Goro and Goro's future husband Paul. She lived in the Albert Lea area her whole life, never marrying, and is buried next to Goro's son Bernhard.
