Frances Irene Brennecke, 89, of Chanute, Kansas, died at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor in Parsons, Kansas. She had been in failing health.
She was born on March 3, 1919 at Galesburg, Kansas, a daughter of Everett and Bertha (Trabue) Letcher.
She was raised and attended school at Galesburg, graduating from the Galesburg High School with the Class of 1937. Upon completing high school she began working at the Quality Café in Parsons.
On June 2, 1940 she was married to Paul T. Brennecke at the parsonage of the United Brethren Church.
During World War II, they resided in Pittsburg, KS. While her husband was serving in the Korean War, she lived in Lebanon, MO, and later Mineral Wells, TX. Upon her husband's discharge they moved to Chanute where she and Paul operated the Paul T. Brennecke Insurance and Real Estate Agency. She worked there until her retirement.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Chanute. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Paul T. Brennecke, Chanute, KS; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary D. and Martha Brennecke, Parsons, KS, and Craig E. and Diana Brennecke, Temple, TX; four grandchildren, Janese Barnhardt, Nixa, MO, Michael D. Brennecke, Parsons, KS, Rebekah Miller, Temple, TX, and Christina Brennecke, Seguin, TX; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Wayne Letcher, Erie, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mabel Matuska; twin brothers, Leslie and Lester Letcher; a half-sister, Opal Gough; a half-brother, Orville "Tink" Killian; several cousins, nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be May 29, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church at Chanute with Rev. Shelly Holle officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Galesburg, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church of Chanute.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Carson-Wall Funeral Home of Parsons.
