Services for Edel Bird, 84, who passed away at his home Thursday, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Keeling Funeral Home with Rev. W.T. Branon officiating.

Mr. Bird, a farmer and former greenskeeper at the Elks Country Club, was born in Perry County Oct. 11, 1879, the son of Henry J. and Rachel Ann Queen Bird. He married Lula Mae Holmes October 29, 1902 in Du Quoin, IL. She died in 1961.

A member of the Du Quoin First Baptist Church and formerly a deacon of Holts Prairie Baptist Church, Bird had been in failing health for several months.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Truman (Hazel) Kennedy, of Du Quoin; four sons, Eugene and Lester, of Du Quoin, Everett, of Warrensburg, and Elvis, of Lowell, IN.; two brothers, J. C. Bird, of Pinckneyville, and Lawrence Bird, of Sparta; one sister, Mrs. Henrietta Kowolski, of Percy; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Saturday.
