Vermont Lieutenant Governor. He worked as a teacher, principal and school superintendent, and received a bachelor's degree in 1883 and a master's degree in 1909, both from the University of Vermont. He served as Vermont's Superintendent of Education from 1892 to 1900 and was Superintendent of Education in Manila, Philippines from 1900 to 1905. In 1905 he returned to the office of Vermont Education Superintendent, and served until 1916. In 1918 he won election to the Lieutenant Governor's office and served one term, 1919 to 1921. Stone also authored several books, including a history of education in Vermont.
