Nellie Mae Cowsky, the daughter of Hubert and Elizabeth (Craig) Nichols, was born on September 1, 1910 on a farm near Albion, Nebraska. She passed away on October 3, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Center in Nelson, Nebraska at the age of 97 years,1 month and 2 days.

Nellie was one of eight children. She grew up on the farm and attended Albion Public Schools graduating in 1928. She was employed until her marriage by the Lincoln Telephone Company. She was united in marriage to George Cowsky of Cedar Rapids, Nebraska on December 27, 1930 at Center, Nebraska. This union was blessed with a daughter.

They moved to Nelson, Nebraska in 1938. Nellie was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Nelson for nearly 70 years and currently a member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ.

Preceded in death by her parents,husband, George on May 26, 1977; four brothers, Floyd, Hubert, Clarence and Robert, and three sisters, Mary, Cora and Vera.

Survivors include her daughter, Suzanne Nitz of York, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Kristina Nitz Evans and husband Keith, Kristopher Nitz and wife Jennifer, Kurtiss Nitz and wife Audra and Kevin Nitz; eight great grandchildren, Donald Rangel,Leticia Rangel, Joseph Rangel, Jason Nitz, Skylar Nitz, Jaden Sue Green, Kimberly Estelle Nitz and Alexander Nitz and one great-great grandchild, Carmen Rangel; nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at 10:00 AM from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Stephen Berry officiating. Music was "Amazing Grace" and "In The Garden", with Stephanie Thayer as soloist and Carlita Erickson as organist.

Pallbearers were Ken Hamel, Roger Williams, Gene Genung, Mike Thayer, Fritz Wehrman, Jr. and Jerome Mazour. Honorary Pallbearers were her grandsons, Kristopher Nitz, Kurtiss Nitz, Kevin Nitz and Keith Evans.

Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska.
