This gentleman, who served in battle in the Civil War, has had his remains moved several times. Per his death certificate, he was initially in Philadelphia at Saint John's Methodist Episcopal vault, and then went to American Mechanics Cemetery. That cemetery was uprooted for the building of the Raymond Rosen housing project, and the interred were to be moved to Philadelphia Memorial Park in Frazer. Sadly, not all the people interred at Mechanics were successfully moved depending on response or possibly money from surviving families of the deceased. We can only hope Private Barger made the move successfully, and pray he can stay undisturbed here online forever.

He was discharged January 1, 1863, for wounds received at Williamsburg, Va. on May 5, 1862.
Pvt Barger re-enlisted into Company D, 29th Infantry Regiment and was transferred into the U.S. Veteran Reserve Corps. Sources vary on the dates of these actions.

In 1860 Philadelphia, there is a John Barger, age 22, moulder, wife Matilda, age 18, and daughter Mary, 6 months old. Also living with them is Nicholas Barger (possibly a brother) age 23, and Rosanna Barger (a sister or perhaps Nicholas' wife), age 18. While his age is close to be right, as is his occupation, this too is not conclusive.
In 1850 in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 12 year old John appears with his bricklayer father William and mother Mary, and siblings Elizabeth and Christiana.
