Funeral services will be held tomorrow [27 February 1943] in Drummond, Mich., for John C. Fisher, 63, [sic; he was 56] U.S. weather forecaster here from January, 1937, until January, 1942, who died yesterday in Drummond. He had been living there since his retirement two months after leaving Columbus. Although he had been ill, his illness was a brief one and he was believed to have been recovering.
Born in Beirut, Syria, Mr. Fisher was the son of United States citizens [Mary Georgiana (Shaw) and Dr. John C. Fisher] temporarily living abroad where his father was a medical missionary in the Syrian Protestant College. He attended public schools in New York and California, and received his B. S. degree from Cornell University in 1909 [sic; 1922].
He was appointed assistant observer in the Weather Bureau in 1910. He served as assistant in Madison, Wis., Detroit, Mich., Ft. Smith, Ark., Washington, D.C., and Ithaca [and Syracuse], N. Y. He came to Columbus from Ithaca. In 1940 he served as the president of the Federal Business Association here.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ruth Campbell Fisher; two sons, John Jr., graduate of Ohio State University and now connected with Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Robert Fisher, with the Navy, and a sister, Miss Edith Fisher, 1755 King-av. [Columbus, Ohio]
