Dad left school early as he had to go to work to help support the family, but home schooled himself to get his diploma and also learned to be an electrician through the mail. He worked for Hieze & Roberts in Austin, Minnesota for more than 10 years, then in 1960 went to for for Honeywell at the Stinson plant and the family moved to Bloomington, Minnesota.
Dad was inventive and creative, earning over 350 bonuses through Honeywell for his suggestions. He also had a talent for math and art. In Austin he helped move the Train Engine to the fairgrounds and had a HO train set up in our basement. Tracks would go around even Mom's washer and dryer. He made all the buildings by hand and many of the trains.
He loved music and favorite were polkas and could dance with ease. Although he lost an ear drum due to a blast in the service, he could repeat any tune he heard with the correct notes. He enjoyed camping with the family and traveled to many states.
Every weekend Mom and Dad would go to the races. First it was my uncle racing then my Brother started racing as soon as he could drive. They sponsored him all the years he raced and followed many of the Nascar drivers.
Dad died almost one year after Mom of lung cancer.
