W. W. Dalgleish died at his home on North Palm Street this morning. "Grandpa Dalgleish," as he was commonly called, was known and loved throughout Rialto, and his kindly presence will he missed by many. Service will be held from the home on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Dr. Harcourt W. Peck will conduct the service, assisted by the Rev. Stacy A. Smith.
Walter W. Dalgleish was born at Penfield, Ohio. Sept 12, 1840, making his ago 83 years, 4 months and 17 days. His parents were Robert Dalgleish and Janet Dunham Dalgleish of Edinburgh. Scotland. Mr. Dalgleish enlisted in the United States Army in 1861 and served three years. Following the close of the Civil War, he became a teacher, and in 1888 moved to Michigan, where in the following year he married Margaret R. Creasinger. Ten children were born of this union.
For 40 years Mr. and Mrs. Dalgleish lived on the Michigan farm which they had cut out of the virgin forest until 1908, when they came to Santa Monica. In 1909 they moved to Rialto. Mr. Dalgleish was for many years a devout Christian and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He leaves to mourn his loss besides his widow, two sons, Orin Dalgleish, of Northern CalIfornia; Preston Dalgleish and three daughters, Mrs. Rudolph Swinney, of Venice; Mrs. E. A. Randall, of Costa Mesa, and Mrs. Glenn Harvey whose home is in the East.
