Charlotte Jo Chisholm Adams, affectionately known as Momma Jo, Honey Jo or JoJo to her grandchildren, entered into eternity while being held in the arms of her son on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at Landmark Nursing Center. Her heavenly entry came after a long and debilitating illness. Jo was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Charles P. and Sarah Kate Chisholm, her infant twin sister, Charlene Patricia, and her children's father, Kenneth L. Adams.

Jo was born on June 16, 1931, in Dumas, Arkansas. She moved to West Monroe with her parents in 1935. Jo graduated in 1948 from OPHS and from Centenary College in 1951. She went on to achieve her Master's Degree from ULM in Special Education. Not only was Jo an attentive and supportive mother and grandmother, but her passion for learning was demonstrated through her encouragement towards students to fulfill their potential. Jo touched many lives. She retired from the Ouachita Parish School System as Supervisor of Gifted and Special Education.

Jo was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in West Monroe where she held various leadership and teaching positions, sang in the choir and was a member of the Upper Room Sunday School Class. She was a charter member of Cultura Book Club and a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. Jo was active in the Council for Exceptional Children, Louisiana Association of School Executives, organized a parent's program for gifted and talented students in Ouachita Parish and was listed in Who's Who in Louisiana Educators.

Jo is survived by her three precious children, Vicki Adams Cansler and husband Larry, Kendy Adams Fletcher and husband Chad, and Chuck Adams; six grandchildren, Camilea and Clayton Cansler, Brenton Baranek and wife Tanisha, Scott Baranek and wife Melissa, and Ashton and Caroline Adams.

A celebration of Jo's life will be held on Saturday, April 26, at 11:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, West Monroe. Burial will be in Hasley Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday, April 25, from 4:30 P.M. until 8:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe and again at the church Saturday morning 10:00 AM until service time.

Pallbearers will be Brenton Baranek, Scott Baranek, Clayton Cansler, Chet Bradley, Doug Caldwell, Mickey Cook, Barry Bell, and Whitty Hood.

Reserved seating will be provided for the honorary pallbearers, the members of the Cultura Book Club and the Upper Room Sunday School Class.

Our heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Landmark Nursing Center and Hospice Care of Louisiana for the superior care you provided for our mother.
