Florence H. Roffman, 102, of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26th, at 11:00 AM at Forest Mills United Methodist Church rural Postville, IA, with Rev. Richard Iles and Verdon Swenson officiating. Burial will be at Smithfield Cemetery, rural Monona, IA. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Florence Hannah Roffman was born on February 5, 1906, the daughter of James Edward and Elizabeth (Willis) Ewing in Evans, Colorado. The family moved to Allamakee County when she was an infant. She was baptized and confirmed at the Forest Mills Evangelical United Brethren Church. Florence attended Evergreen Country School, Forest Mills Country School and Waukon High School. Prior to marriage she worked for many families as "hired help" for the births of babies, housekeeper, and as an assistant cook for the road crews that worked on Hwy 51. On November 24, 1926 she married Earl Louis Roffman in Waukon. Together they farmed in Franklin Township for 5 years and then for 40 years in Jefferson Township, where she enjoyed raising Brown Swiss Cattle and sheep. She lived there until the age of 96, before becoming a resident at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon.

Florence was a life-long member of Forest Mills United Methodist Church and was active in its ladies groups. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, cooking and spending time with her family and friends. Florence always had a full cookie jar with chocolate chip cookies for the neighbor kids who called her "Grandma Florence". Her favorite foods were her homemade noodles, raisin cream pie and her homemade chocolate pie.

Survivors include her children, Betty Denner of New Hampton, IA and Terry (Kim) Roffman of Ripon, WI; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, James (Doris) Ewing of Postville, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl who died in 1986; a son, Eldo Roffman; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 3 brothers, Lawrence, George and Larry Ewing.

Honorary casketbearers are Travis and Sgt. Kenneth Roffman, Shayne and Pat Barr, Ronald and Roger Ruppert II. Casketbearers are Jim Boland, Warren Barr, Joe and Tim Denner and Ethan and Caleb Roffman.
