David was born and raised in West Islip and lived there all of his life, until he was drafted into the US Army.
After arriving in Vietnam 7 November 1968, David was assigned to C Company, 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry, 196th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division, USARV. C Company was at the Nui Yon Regional Forces Camp, Quang Tin Province and 6 kilometers west of the Tam Ky Airfield, when at approximately 0130H there was a heavy ground attack launched by a force of hostile forces. David died as a result of gunshot wounds to the body from hostile rifle fire. C Company lost a total of 28 soldiers, during the fierce fighting. Due to heavy enemy activity in the area his body was recovered and identified 24 May 1969.
Survived by his parents, George F and Helen Bukowski and his 2 sisters; Deborah and Virginia, all of 812 Stanley Street, West Islip, New York.
