JOHN VERNON
Mr. John F. ("Jack") Vernon
Of Westwood Manor, beloved husband of Ann Vernon, passed away peacefully April 18, 2008, at Heartland Hospice House after a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer.
Jack's greatest passion was the musical theatre. He appeared in countless shows at Candlelight Music, Three Little Bakers Dinner Theaters, and the Delaware Children's Theatre. Also, he sang with the Brandy-winers, Ardensingers, Wilmington Opera Society and numerous church choirs. Jack enjoyed several careers, including contracting, building local homes, engineering at All-American Engineering, purchasing for Del Tech Engineering, and Real Estate. Jack was a huge sports fan, an avid supporter of the Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles. He enjoyed a long, wonderful life and will be missed dearly by all who knew him. He was a talented, charming, loving man blessed with a remarkable singing voice.
In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by his sister, Eleanor Hamilton of Pasadena, CA; 3 sons, John F., Jr. of Plymouth Meeting, PA, Thomas of Key Largo, FL and Sean Michael of Greenville, DE; 6 daughters, Diane Vernon Love and her husband, Ken, of Bear, DE, Linda Vernon Hicks and her husband, John, of West Chester, PA, Cheryl Vernon Zimmerman and her husband, Robert, of W. Ossipee, NH, Ann Sanford, of Toledo, OH, Drein Eleanor and her fiancé Michael Mitzner of Key Largo, FL, Maureen of Fairless Hills, PA and Gillian Marie of Newark, DE. In addition he is survived by 3 stepchildren, Bruce Levy of Longwoood, PA and Lindsey Ann Levy and Nina Locardi of Key Largo, FL. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 6-8 pm, Wednesday, April 23, and again from 10-11 am, Thursday, April 24, at Hillcrest-Bellefonte United Methodist Church, Hillcrest and Marsh Rds., Wilmington, DE. A funeral service will follow at 11 am, Thursday at the church. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemeter, Wilm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Jack's memory to the Delaware Children's Theatre, 1014 Delaware Ave., Wilmington, DE 19806.
