Chesapeake - Alonzo Custis Jr., 60, of the 1000 block of Greer Street departed this life February 3, 2008.
Born in Norfolk, he was employed with Ecolochem/GE Mobile for 24 years, and a longtime member of First Baptist Church Campostella.
A graduate of George Washington Carver High School, he earned a degree in 1970 from Elizabeth City State University, where he played basketball on the 1969 CIAA Championship basketball team.
He was a teacher at Warrick High School in Newport News for 12 years.
He is predeceased by his parents, Alonzo Custis Sr., and Lillian N. Custis.
Survivors include his wife, Gereka M. Custis; one daughter, Wendy Gunn (Derrick) of San Diego, CA; two sons, Darren Alonzo Custis and Derrick Alonzo Custis Sr. of Chesapeake; three sisters, Larnell C. Butler of Baltimore, Doris L. Barnes of Chesapeake, and Jacqueline C. Morgan (Wendell) of Portsmouth; grandchildren, Danielle Brown, Daniel Brown and Dekarri Gunn all of San Diego, CA and Derrick Alonzo Custis Jr. of Chesapeake; an aunt, Florence McLaughlin of Philadelphia, PA , a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church Campostella. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7pm - 8pm Thursday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
