Alberta Ashford, 68, of Rockford, IL, formerly of Beloit, WI, died Monday, August 27, 2007 at her home.
The former Alberta Pinson was born May 10, 1939 in Pontotoc, MS the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Listenbee) Pinson. She graduated from Pontotoc High School, and married Grady Bell, December 15, 1955 in New Albany, MS, he preceded her in death June 6, 1986. She married Willie D. Ashford, May 10, 1990 in South Beloit, IL, living in Rockford for 17 years, coming from Beloit.
Alberta was a member of Community Baptist Church, South Beloit where she was a Deaconette and active in the Senior Choir. She was a volunteer at Swedish American Hospital, and the Booker Washington Community Center, both in Rockford.
Survivors include her husband, Willie Ashford, Rockford, five sons, Gene (Sandra) Bell, Grady (Peggyann) Bell, both of Beloit, David (Antoinette) King, Rockford, Willie D. (Renae) Ashford Jr, Dale Ashford, both of Loves Park, IL, three daughters, Alice (Dan) Evans, Beloit, Jessie (Carl) Bates, Shirley Coleman, both of Rockford, brother, Herron Pinson, Beloit, sister, Evelyn Vaughn, Shelby Township, MI, twenty-two grandchildren, and twenty-two great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Larry, and Eugene Pinson, and a son, Steve Bell.
Services will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, at New Zion Baptist Church, 1905 S. Mound Ave, Beloit, WI 53511 with visitation prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Inturment will be at Floral Lawn Cemetery, South Beloit.
