James A. Eckenrode Sr., 68, of Hummelstown RD 6 died Thursday in Hilton Head Hospital, Hilton Head, S.C.

He was the owner and operator of Echo Village Apartments, a former industrial engineer for Bethlehem Steel Corp., a WW II veteran and a retired Civil Air Patrol colonel.

He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church of Hershey, the Silver Wings, American Legion Posts 998 and 386 and the Hershey Italian Lodge.

He was a Republican committeeman in Derry Twp., a member and past president of the Hummelstown Rotary Club, and a Paul Harris Fellow.

Surviving are his wife, four sons, a daughter, and nine grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday in his church.

Burial will be in Hershey Cemetery.

Viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Trefz-Bowser Funeral Home, Hummelstown, where the rosary will be recited at 8: 30 p.m., and from 10 to 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to his church, 359 W. Areba Ave., Hershey
