Merle LaVern Adkins, 64, of 2406 Maple was dead on arrival of Operation Life ambulance at her home at 5:20 p.m. Thursday. Death was unexpected.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver funeral home by Dr. Ard Hoven and the Rev. Edward Jones. Burial will be at Rest Haven cemetery at Edinburg. Persons may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 o'clock tonight and until time for services Saturday.

Mrs. Adkins was born Aug. 16, 1909, in Edinburg to the late John T. Garrison and Amanda Jane Coy Garrison, who survives and resides at 2406 Maple. On Jan. 1, 1945, she became the wife of Benjamin H. Adkins, who died July 4, 1964. A member of the First Christian church, she retired Nov. 3, 1972, from Vernco corporation.

Also surviving are five stepsons and a stepdaughter, and a niece and nephew, Betty Bradley of Alamagordo, N.M. and Robert Garrison of Franklin. She was preceded in death by a brother, Marion Emery Garrison.
