Russell D. Radatz Jr., 58, of Port Huron, died unexpectedly of natural causes in Mercy Hospital on Sunday, March 30, 2008. He was born to Russell and Jean Radatz Sr. on March 5, 1950 in Port Huron and he served with the U.S. Marines in Okinawa during the Vietnam Conflict.
Russell worked at Mueller Brass Co. for nearly 20 years before working for Diamond Crystal Salt in St. Clair. The past 8 years he worked for Viscocorp, formerly Schefenacker Corp. He was a boxer while in the Marines and also boxed locally with Bobby McCalla. He enjoyed playing pool, swimming, and he loved riding his Harley.
Russell is survived by his wife of 26 years, Rebecca S. Radatz; two sons, Russell D. "Danny" (Melissa) Radatz III of Alpine, TX and Ryan Radatz of Port Huron; three grandchildren, Gabriel, Makayla, and Madison Radatz; seven brothers and sisters, Linda (Jerome) Gouin of Port Huron, Gerald (Linda) Radatz of Barton City, David (Joyce) Radatz of AZ, Deborah (Doug) Radatz of Fort Gratiot, and Sandra Cole, Joanne Gilbert, and Tammy (David) Radatz, all of Port Huron; several nieces and nephews; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Edith Raines; his brother-in-law, Tim (Lisa) Raines and their children, Joshua and Jeremy; and his beloved pet dog, Sassy. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Smith Family Funeral Home-South, 1230 Seventh St. with the Scriptural Wake service taking place at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, preceded by one hour of visitation. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of the St. Clair Allied Veterans Council.
Pallbearers will be Russell "Danny" and Ryan Radatz, Jerome, Joseph, and Jerry Gouin, and Deborah Radatz. Contributions may be made in Russell's memory to his wife.
