Marine Lance Cpl. Canham was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve's 6th Engineer Support Battalion, 4th Marines Logistics Group, Portland, Oregon. He died after collapsing in his tent and could not be resuscitated. Dustin was a 2004 graduate of Lake Stevens High School where he was a member of the Hi-Q academic team. He was also very skilled at graphic arts and each week during the season he would design a T-shirt for the football team depicting how the Vikings were going to dismantle their next opponent. During high school, he took physical education classes six times because he loved being active. Later he was involved at Forest Fire Paintball in Lake Stevens where he led teams to national paintball championships. In 2004, Dustin joined the Marine Reserves and his unit was activated in December and deployed earlier this month to Africa in support of the war in Afghanistan. U.S. troops have long been assigned to unstable countries in eastern Africa to combat the buildup of terrorist cells and to do humanitarian work. He was a bulk fuel specialist and his unit was providing security for other troops. In 2008, Dustin married the love of his life Devyn and left for Djibouti less than two weeks ago. Dustin was an honest kid with a good heart – known for his stubbornness in always doing the right thing. His wife said he was downright cheesy about it – if he went to Subway, he would always get American cheese. If they went somewhere that had "American" apple pie, he would order it. He loved being an American.
