James Knox Polk Stephens and Margaret Frances Craft were married May 17, 1866, Clay county, Indiana.

To this union ten children were born: Nancy Elizabeth, Jacob, Lola, Thaddeus, Patrick, Maude, May, Ida, Sherman and Ethel Stephens.

James K. P. Stephens, 76 years old, adjutant of General Cruft post No. 284, department of Indiana, G. A. R., died suddenly at his home near Lewis Friday.
He is survived by the widow, Margaret F. Stephens: three sons, Thad and Pat, of Lewis and Sherman, of Terre Haute, and four daughters, Mrs. Maude Brush, of Lewis: Mrs. May Reische, of Carpenter, N. D.; Mrs. Bettie Gale, of Anderson, Ind., and Miss Ethel, at home.
Mr. Stephens enlisted in M company, 6th Indiana cavalry, in March, 1863, and participated in many battles and skirmishes. He was with General Sherman on his march to the sea. He was mustered out at Murfreesboro, Tenn., Sept. 27, 1865
The funeral of James K. P. Stephens, who died Thursday, will be held at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon at the home. Burial will be in the Stephens cemetery.
