Joseph Rhoderick was a son of Susannah (née Fink) and Benjamin Rhoderick, born in 1812 in Frederick County, Maryland, probably in the Middletown District.

Joseph Rhoderick and Mary Ann Everhart were married on 26 July 1833 in Frederick County. Census and cemetery records indicate that the couple had (at least) two daughters: Sarah Ann and Manzella F. Mary Ann died in 1865.

Joseph Rhoderick and Cordelia Jane Thomas were married in 1866 in Frederick County. Cordelia (née Boyer) was the widow of George E. Thomas, who had died in 1861. Joseph and Cordelia Rhoderick became the parents of two daughters and a son
