Ripley, MS, - Maudie Jeter Butler, 87, died Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Golden Living Center in Ripley. She was born March 23, 1920 to the late Richard and Melinda Derrick Jeter. She was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. She previously worked at Blue Bell and at Fred's and was a homemaker.

Services were Sunday, March 9, 2008 at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Harrison and Rev. Michael Baker officiating. Burial in Lowry United Methodist Church Cemetery. Survivors include five daughters, Louise Jeanes (John), Shelby Bass (Gene), Brenda Jeanes (Hershel), all of Ripley, Geraldine Mills (Jim) of Mt. Enterprise, TX and Lula Ann Rawes (Bob) of Chester, VA; two sons, John Harold Childs (Bobbie) and Jimmy Childs (Patti), both of Ripley; one brother, Alvin Jeter of Union City, TN; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four husbands, Carl Robertson, Lee Blythe, John Childs and Edward Butler; two sons, Terry Lee Blythe and J. M. Childs; her parents, Richard and Melinda Derrick Jeter; four sisters, Minnie Cissom, Alma Roberson, Annie Cornelius and Elsie Stewart; two brothers, James Jeter and Rev. Doc Jeter; and one grandchild, Christy Kay Childs.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Jeanes, Lee Roy Harrison, Jason Childs, Brad Childs, Jesse Jones, Brian Hill, Michael Rice and Jonathan Baker. Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lowry United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.
