E. Mae Beat, 90, of Mount Horeb died on Monday, December 31, 2007 at Inglehaven in Mount Horeb. Mae was born on June 30, 1917 to Henry A. and Ida S. (Swenson) Thompson. She lived at home but worked in Mount Horeb until her marriage on April 27, 1949 to Lowell "Scotty" Beat in Wiota. They moved into a home that they had remodeled. Mae worked at Hoff's Store and Lowell started work at Mount Horeb Hardware. They bought the hardware store and Mae went to work with Lowell. They built a new home next to the Mount Horeb Golf Course. They enjoyed their years at the store, took many trips and spent a few months each winter in Florida. They sold the hardware store and buildings and retired. Scotty preceded her in death on February 10, 2004. She was a member of Mount Horeb Evangelical Lutheran Church and of its WELCA.
