Burla Ruth Osborn was born the youngest of nine children on May 20, 1916, at the family homestead in Roach, Mo., to parents William Stephen Osborn and Cora Ann Doyle Osborn.
She attended grade school at Roach, two years of high school in Macks Creek, Mo., and graduated from Camdenton High School in 1933. She loved music and sports. She sang, played piano, guitar and accordion.
On March 2, 1935, she married Ralph Loyd Blair. They lived in Kansas City, where their daughter was born. They had three sons, the last of which died in infancy, after moving back to Camdenton, Mo., leaving behind Blair Hotel and Cafe. Ruth worked in the cafe while Ralph worked building roads in Camden County.
During this period, Blair Cedar and Novelty was established where Ralph and Ruth were an integral part, until Ralph was called to the ministry. They served pastorate at New Home Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Camdenton, Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Climax Springs Baptist Church, Independence Baptist Church at Hazelgreen, Crocker Baptist Church, High Point Baptist Church near Montreal and Macks Creek Baptist Church. Ruth was active in the music program, Sunday school and all other adult and youth organizations in the church program.
In addition to pastor's wife and homemaker, Ruth worked in a variety of fields including school teacher, secretary, sales representative for Blair Cedar and Novelty Inc., co-owner/operator of Blair Distributing Co., Shaklee distributor and a brief stint as Camdenton policewoman/meter maid.
Ralph and Ruth became avid golfers and bowlers in their 50s, playing in several leagues. Ruth participated in national bowling tournaments for 25 years, traveling by bus all over the country with her bowling buddies and won many trophies and cash prizes.
Ruth lived a full and productive life, always ready to help others.
She passed away peacefully at home with her daughter in Phoenix, Ariz., on Feb. 27, 2008. She is now rejoicing with those who preceded her in death, her parents; brothers, Claude, Marion, Alfred, William and Herman; sisters, Ada, Alta and Goldie; husband, Ralph; infant son, James Donald; and granddaughter, Vicki Inderbitzen-Bethal.
She is survived by daughter, Wilma Ruth Bethal and son, Billy John Blair, of Phoenix; son Robert Ralph Blair and wife, Carolyn, of Cold Springs, Nev.; seven grandchildren, Teresa Fisher and husband, Jay; Sheryl Smith and husband, Ron; Jackie Holland and husband, David; Bob Blair Jr, and wife, Cathy; Steven Blair; Angela Brooks-Reese; and Dee Anna Sherman; 18 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. March 8, at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home in Camdenton.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. prior to the time of services at the funeral home.
