Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, with burial in Our Home Unitarian Universalist Cemetery in Jones County. Linda Foshee will officiate.
Born Jan. 28, 1921, in Key West, Fla., she graduated from Key West High School in 1939. After living in Miami for several years, in her early 20s she moved to Laurel, where she lived the remainder of her life. She retired from Masonite Corp. around 1974, after having worked in research and then as a complaint analyst. After retirement, she enjoyed growing vegetables, spending time with her family and traveling. She was a member of Our Home Unitarian Universalist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Charley Wade Herrington; parents, Francisco and Esperanza Bernal; a stepdaughter, Charlotte Herrington Watts; a stepson, Sammy Herrington Crawford, and a beloved brother-in-law, Bill Bishop.
She is survived by a sister, Mercedes Bishop of Laurel; two daughters, Deborah Herrington of Laurel and Maggie Hastings of Winter Park, Fla.; a niece, Maria Amalia Chesser of Valparaiso, Fla.; a nephew, Billy Bishop of Laurel; three grandsons, Kirk Day and his wife Lynn Day of Charlotte, N.C., Ryan Myrick and his wife Allison Myrick of Jackson and Jessie Rushton of Sevierville, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Lauren Day and Morgan Day of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandsons-in-law and their spouses, Bobby and Patty Watts and Scottie and Jennifer Watts; three granddaughters, Sherrie Merrill, Sonia Wadley and Sheila Nicholson; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
