FARMER CITY - James Milton McIlvain, 81, Farmer City, formerly of Carl Junction, Mo., passed away at 6:13 p.m. Sunday (July 26, 2009) at the Farmer City Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Farmer City, with Pastor Scott Millis officiating. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery, Mansfield. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to James Milton McIlvain memorial fund, in care of Farmer City State Bank, Farmer City.

James was born Oct. 6, 1927, at Mansfield, a son of James Howard and Stella Montgomery McIlvain. He married Shirley Mae Thompson on Dec. 4, 1948.

He is survived by three sons, James H. (Debbie) McIlvain, Farmer City; Tommy Dean McIlvain, Edgewood, N.M.; and Robert Allen McIlvain, Farmer City; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

During his teens, he worked at the Farmer City bowling alley hand-setting pins. He also helped build concrete elevators, including one in Farmer City. James was one of the first two drivers for Pre Fab Transit in Farmer City. His last occupation was operating a separator for a gravel company in Joplin, Mo.

He enjoyed building anything.
