In 1871, a revival under Rev. Thomas Jones, former slave, in the Union church, Foster, R.I., he became awakened and joined the church, having decided to preach if God would open the way. Being in Pottersville, South Scituate, in October 1873, a stranger, never seen before or since, invited him to preach. His efforts were followed at once by a revival which resulted in the organization of the South Scituate church June 8, 1874. He was ordained June 19 as its pastor.
The pastorate continued till March, 1882, and thirty were added to its original members. His home is [1889] in Moosup Valley, R.I."
