Frank of Beaumont, and formerly of Port Arthur, passed away at his residence with his loving family at his side.
He was born in Palestine, Texas to Joseph L. Fallwell and Julia Jander Fallwell.
Frank graduated from high school in Palestine and then attended college at St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas and graduated with a B.S. degree in commerce. While at St. Edwards he excelled in both football and baseball for the Hilltoppers of St. Ed's. His favorite sport was baseball and while in the U.S. Navy was awarded All Pacific Catcher.
With the onset of World War II Frank enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1942 and was sent to San Diego, California for his initial training. Upon completion he was assigned to a navy commando unit known as "Cub 3". While with Cub 3 he was stationed in the Fiji's, New Caledonia, Guadalcanal and Tulagi. He was then furnished with short furlough back stateside and re-assigned to a destroyer escort, USS Engstrom, DE-50. While on board the Engstrom he was involved in the invasion of Guam/Saipan, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. At the end of the war in 1945 his destroyer was the first U.S. Naval vessel to visit Truk Is and they accepted the surrender of Japanese forces there.
At the end of the war and upon discharge from the Navy he resumed his career with the Gulf Oil Refinery Company in Port Arthur, Texas. It was while working at Gulf Oil that he met his wife of sixty-two years Myrtis Marie Hackney. Frank retired from Gulf Oil in 1980 at Section Head of Accounting. While residing in the Port Arthur area Frank was very active in coaching Little League and High School baseball for over seventeen years. Frank was also past President and Secretary of the North Port Arthur Lions Club, Treasurer of Chevron Gulf Retiree's Association. He was also a Board Member for thirty-six years and past President of the Gulf Employees Credit Union in Groves. He was a lifetime member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars, member of the American Legion and the Groves Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife of sixty two years, Myrtis Hackney Fallwell; brother, Clarence Fallwell and his wife Joyce and his sister, Agnes Greer; sons, Capt. Patrick L. Fallwell and wife Loretta, Michael Fallwell and wife Maureen and Timothy Fallwell and wife Julie; five grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.
