Ansel G. Ellison, 92, of Springfield, passed on to his heavenly home Monday, February 4, 2008, at Christian Health Care West.

Ansel was born December 14, 1915, to Sherman and Artie Ellison in Ava, Missouri. He graduated from Ava High School and attended Draughn's Business College in Springfield. He met and married LaVerne Robertson, his wife and partner of 68 years, on June 25, 1939. He devoted most of his professional career to B.F. Goodrich as a traveling shoe salesman. He also enjoyed farming in his retirement years. Ansel was a longtime member of Second Baptist Church. He loved Sunday school class and served as an usher in the church for many years. He was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord and taking care of his family. He was a loving husband and the best father anyone could ask for. He was always there for his family when they needed encouragement. He gave his love freely to all of his family and friends. Ansel loved people and never met a stranger, always valuing their friendship. He was so special to so many people. His family and friends will never forget their fondest memories of his love, kindness and warmth. He will be forever in our hearts.

Ansel is survived by his wife, LaVerne; two sons, Richard of Springfield and Ronald of Overland Park, Kansas; daughter-in-law Laurie; three grandchildren, Samantha and Andrew "Bo" of Overland Park, Kansas, and Jeff of Jefferson City, Missouri; sister Naomi Haynes of Lancaster, Virginia; niece Judy Roper of Lancaster, Virginia; nephew Jim Haynes of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; and cousins, J.G. Heinlein of Ava, Missouri, and Norma Ilene Mauldin of Springfield, Missouri.

There will be a visitation at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008, at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole, Springfield, Missouri 65804. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Rivermonte Cemetery, 4500 S. Lone Pine, Springfield, Missouri.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Anna, Crystal, Twyla and the other health care workers of C-Wing at Christian Health Care West and the Regional Hospice team. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Second Baptist Church, Alzheimer's Association or Southwest Missouri or Regional Hospice.
