Gene Collins, 74, Avon, died January 18, 2007. He was born November 17, 1932, in Laurel, Nebraska, baptized as Walter Gene Collins in 1932. He was a veteran of the US Navy. Survivors include wife Pat Collins; daughters Kim Lakin, Cindy Wooden and Amy Sides; grandchildren Aaron, Tyler and Aubrey Roberts, Jacob Widner [currently serving in the US Navy], Katie Harbridge, Lexi Miller; great grandson Drake Roberts; sisters Dorothy Mathwig and Burnetta Suter. Gene worked at Weimer Typesetting Indianapolis; he then owned Collins Country Oak Shop in Brownsburg. He later worked and retired from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Avon. Services will be 10 am Thursday January 25 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with visitation there from 4-8pm Wednesday January 24. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Building Fund, 7105 E US 36, Avon, Indiana 46123.
