WENATCHEE - Wayne B. Bennett, 72, of Wenatchee and a former longtime resident and businessman of Manson, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 1994, in Highline Convalescent Center.
He was born Oct. 29, 1921, to John and Edna (Longfellow) Bennett, at Boulder, Colo. The family later moved to Iowa, where he attended school at Sioux City.
The family moved to Manson in 1937, and he graduated from Manson High School in 1939. He worked for Howe-Sound Mining Co. for a year, then moved to Spokane. He moved to Wenatchee in 1944, and worked for Jones Pontiac.
He married Jaunita Young on Jan. 11, 1945, at Wenatchee. They moved to Manson where Mr. Bennett owned and operated an auto repair shop and service station. He then began a 25-year career in the insurance business, and was associated with Farmers Insurance Company for several years.
Following his retirement in 1985, he and his wife spent winters in Arizona and the rest of the year at Wenatchee.
Mr. Bennett was a member of the Manson United Methodist Church and attended the First United Methodist Church at Wenatchee. He was a member of Rotary for many years and was a member of Sunrise Rotary Club at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Wenatchee Eagles No. 204 and the Wenatchee Elks Club. He had served with the Manson Volunteer Fire Department for several years and had served on the Lake Chelan Sewer District.
He is survived by his wife, of the home; three sons, Melvin of Manson, Jim of La Grande, Ore., and John of Cold Springs, N.Y.; a daughter, Pam Divelbiss of Issaquah; a brother, Robert of Tacoma; two sisters, Marge Chambers of Waterville and Leola Carberry of Startup; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
