Mrs. H. C. Cate, for many years a resident of the Hiattsville vicinity, passed away at the old family home south of Moravia early Sunday morning. Seven weeks ago Mrs. Cate fell and broke her hip and has suffered intensely since that time.
Obituary
Laura Alice, daughter of Lewis and Rachel Hiatt, was born near Hiattsville in Appanoose County, Iowa, December 29, 1860 and died at her old home three and one-half miles southeast of Moravia, Iowa, November 24, 1935, aged 74 years, 10 months and 25 days.
She was married to Harvey C. Cate, November 11, 1880. To this union were born six children, two sons and four daughters. One son and three daughters died in infancy. One son, Zelvin; died at the age of seven years. One daughter, Mrs. Lucinda Donovan, still survives.
After the death of her husband, Mrs. Cate made her home with her daughter, who then lived in Moravia. Fours years ago Mrs. Donovan moved with her family to the home farm where they tenderly cared for her mother during her long illness which she bore with patience.
Mrs. Cate united with the Methodist Episcopal Church when quite young. Later in life she changed her membership to the Primitive Baptist Church at Moravia, and lived a faithful member of the same until the time of her death, she being the last of the members of that church.
She was a faithful loving wife and mother and while in good health she was devoted to her family, ever considerate of her neighbors and friends and rendering assistance whenever she could to those in need.
