ANTHONY M. MARESCA, 73, of Williston, Fla., formerly of MIDDLETOWN, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6. Born on Jan. 13, 1934, in Jersey City, he moved from Middletown to Williston, Fla., five years ago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He served 27 years on the Newark Fire Department, retiring as a battalion chief. He then worked for the Township of Middletown as Chief Combustibles Inspector. He was a president, coach and co-founder of the Middletown Athletic Club (M.A.C.), which was formed to serve the Middletown Pop Warner football association. He coached more than 35 years and was honored with a plaque and a day given to him in his name of Tony Maresca Day in Middletown by the mayor for his contribution of time spent to the youth of Middletown. He also was one of the Jersey Shore Pop Warner Commissioners for several years.
He is survived by his brother, Albert J. Maresca of Middletown; a sister, Marie L. Piccini of Bronson, Fla.; three children, Annmarie Van Lenten and Albert A. Maresca, both of Williston, Fla., and Michelle L. Biggin of Morriston, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Funeral services are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Leonardville Road, Middletown. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
